Perspectives invites you to imagine concert differently, to de-compartmentalize Music. The singers gather around this programme with the will to open up a new dimension and an original approach in order to offer a new perceptive space, far away from stylistic splits and well-worn paths in which Music often loses its Arianne’s thread.

L'Amantation - Songs of love and misery

Creation during winter 2018

Cornysh - Tallis - Tomkins - Banchieri - Monteverdi - Morley - Moultaka...

"Is it nothing to you, all ya that pass by? Behold, and see if there be any sorrowlike unto my sorrow, which is brought upon me." This verse by Jeremiah bears us as witnesses. It begs us to hear his suffering. Poets and musicians will seize this cry and make it theirs. They’ll convert every affliction, every moan, every tear, every love complaint into chords and resonance. By lamenting Jerusalem’s destruction, confiding us Virgin Mary’s wrench in the "Pianto della Madonna", or telling us the unfortunate fate of Olimpia and many more passions and tragic love torments, these masters of the Renaissance & Baroque eras listen carefully to the human soul which confides to the accents of the voice.

What's in a Name?

Wilbye - Banchieri - Schumann - Fauré - Legrand - Paul Simon...

Whether they remind us beautiful memories or bitter insults, names all bear a story. So many eternal faces studied by Perspectives in this programme. The Lamento d’Arianna (Monteverdi), The Adieu to Amaryllis (Wilbye), the undying love for Michelle (The Beatles) or Rosanna (Toto) or even Sylvia’s ode (Schubert)… Names have always inspired poets and musicians. To say a name is expressing a feeling. What characters hide behind these names? To what pictures do they send us back? How do they resonate in us?

Songs of Experience

Bowie - Caplet - Ohana - Elgar - Salvador - Brel - Valle...

When human beings are gripped by the experience of love, or joy, or wonder, another dimension of life opens up before them; a feeling of being fulfilled encourages them to express themselves with renewed energy, through poetry, music and song. Being confronted with sadness, death, suffering, and the very depths of existence, unlocks a quite different perception of reality, one that cannot find a response in the spoken word alone. A further source of inspiration, the encounter with the sacred dimension, offers us a glimpse of something totally different, and inspires new lyrical aspirations. The songs that interpret these three great existential experiences can intertwine or confront each other, transcending styles, periods or languages.
